Product Description
The Tonnetz ("tone network") describes triadic relationships in tonal music, and is built on intervals of the perfect fifth, major third, and minor third. First described in a 1739 treatise by Leonhard Euler (yes, that Euler), this way of conceptualizing harmonic relationships was later disseminated by 19th-c. theorists including Hugo Riemann (no, not that Riemann--perhaps you're thinking of the mathematician Bernhard Riemann). In the latter half of the 20th century, neo-riemannian theorists incorporated assumptions about equal temperament and enharmonic equivalence; these yield a neo-riemannian Tonnetz that maps onto a torus. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonnetz
