Design work on the Pike began shortly after the
Spear class. The Royal Army Design Center reused some design elements from the Spear, but changed the focus of the vehicle to be a troop transport. The forward turret, engine layout, and propulsion system were directly copied from the Spear design. The hull was redesigned to add more armor, a rear turret with three Maxims, and seating capacity for 12 soldiers. In addition, a rangefinder was added to improve long-range fire.
The Pike has served in many operations throughout the Second Hive War. Its heavy armor is proof against many of the smaller hive creatures and the combination of its heavy 4-inch gun and its array of Maxims are a strong deterrent as well.
