Product Description
Carver HTR Speaker Terminal Block
This product is the terminal block that houses the plastic head screw-in terminals on the Carver HTR series of AVR Receivers.  HTR-880, HTR-885.1

Description
:   We had a Carver HTR-880 that came in for repair, no sound on one speaker.  While testing for continuity from the banana jack to the internal speaker terminal on the rear, we found an open connection, even though the screw was tight.  The screw nut was bent so that it wobbles as it screws in.  This is a pretty common occurance on items that have been moved or shipped.  The slightest bump, especially on nuts that are not snugged up will bend the screw.

This is a poor design.  We discovered that the banana jack that the speaker plug inserts into relies on the threaded connection for continuity.  Although it seems unlikely that the threads would not provide a good electrical connection, this is exactly the situation we discovered.  We found replacement dual banana jacks, cheap on eBay, that seems like better design, perhaps quality.  The banana socket is a solid shaft that goes all the way in, and can be soldered onto to.  The threaded nut's only purpose is to cinch down non-banana speaker wires/pins if used.  The only problem is that the spacing between the red and black jacks is not the correct size to fit the holes on the Carver AVR.  Actually, we could not find any aftermarket banana jacks with that unusual spacing.  So we have made our own replacement terminal block.  This allows the use of these aftermarket jacks (not included) which you can use to repair your broken or bent ones, or to upgrade your existing ones for a better connection.

--------------------------------------------

Important note:  This is a custom design and will not work with the factory screw nuts.  You must use the aftermarket ones as shown in the image.  They are all over eBay and cheap.  The factory PCB will snap onto the hooks of the block, just like the factory design.  However, the original terminal bracket that is soldered onto the PCB will not fit this block like the factory design.  You will have to rebend and drill (or make a new one) if you choose to install like the factory design.  Or you can simply solder a paper clip from PCB to the banana jack connection.  A wire can also be used but will not be stiff like the factory installation method.

Compatibility:  This was designed with the Carver HTR-880 in mind.  We believe that the HTR-885.1 uses the same terminals based on photos of the rear that we've seen of these 2 receivers, but we can not confirm this since we don't have one.

Materials:  The cheapest material is white color.  Should be 100% functional but will have a different look unless painted.  The Black ones can be used as-is.  The Professional Plastic version has the better finish but since almost all of the block is internal and not visible, might not be worth the higher cost of this material.
