3788 Scale Hydran Heavy Gendarme & Police Carrier

The Hydrans are an unusual species that live on the far side of the Klingon Empire, along the edge of the galaxy. They are enemies of the Klingons and Lyrans and were conquered by those empires at one point, only to drive the invaders out decades later. Hydrans breathe methane and live on cold type-S gas giants on silicate continents floating on liquid methane oceans.

This sprue contains one Hydran Heavy Gendarme Police Destroyer and one Police Carrier.

A heavier version of the Gendarme police ship, this ship was created as the General War continued, and the tiny police cutters became the prey of powerful enemy and pirate raiders. The design was created by widening the Gendarme police ship cutter. Almost all were new construction as conversion (theoretically possible) was not cost-effective. Unlike the Gendarme police cutter, the Heavy Gendarme ship carried three Stinger-2 fighters as a normal part of its operations. The fact that none of these ships were taken over by the Hydran Navy but all remained in the police forces can be taken as a clear indication of the relative power of the Hydran police in protecting their turf. Still, several of these wound up participating as destroyer substitutes in fleet battles. Known names at the time of the General War included Hyrelik, Quarrelsom, and Obstreperous.

The Hydran police forces operated a handful of these police carriers, a variant of the standard Gendarme police ship operating ten fighters. The ship had two bays, the hull being too narrow to construct a wider bay on one deck. Ships of this class never operated hellbore-armed fighters. Known names include Deputy Harrak, Deputy Hurrel, and Deputy Hantke.

This sprue of ships is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
