Based on Canadian National RS18 number 3832 this short hood represents one found on an RS18 equipped with dynamic brakes.
Grab iron locations are located with a 0.010" diameter hole drilled through the hood. You may need to further expand the diameter of this hole depending on the size of wire you use for grab irons. Individual grab iron locations will vary from diesel to diesel so verify final detail locations against the prototype you're modelling.
Some basic notes on the part
- typical wall thickness is 1mm
- 31mm total length
- 20mm outside width
- 18mm inside width
- The top of this short hood, on the prototype, includes a rectangular hinged hatch often seen in the open position. This hatch would be too thick if printed and further, though I have a decent collection of reference photos I can't settle on its location of correct size. This hatch will need to be added by the modeller.
- Grab iron locations are marked with a 0.010" diameter hole drilled through the nose. It may be necessary to adjust the final size of this hole depending on the size of wire you use for grab irons on your model.
- Numberboards and light lenses are not the full thickness of the shell and are only 0.020" thick making it easy to drill them out if you would like to replace with a clear lense.
