Product Description
The Listowel and Ballybunion Railway was opened in County Kerry, Ireland, in 1888.  Built to the Lartigue system, it was the world’s first commercial passenger monorail, operating until 1924, and remains one of the most famous monorail systems ever constructed.  Although scrapped, a working replica was constructed in 2003, continuing the history of this remarkable railway experiment.

This set provides examples of the line’s covered wagons (with corrugated roof) and cattle truck.  They make an unusual wagon load or static display model (track and other rolling stock separately available), but can also be made into a fully operational model with the use of steel strip and magnets (see video below).

Necessary to Complete:
Wheels & sleepers (3D print, available separately.  NB wheels should be drilled out to 1.4mm)
Axles (1mm wire such as a from a large paperclip is ideal; 6.5mm long)
Styrene ships (2mm wide; used to keep the axles in place)

Necessary for Operation (NOTE this requires a thin baseboard and fine-tuning for reliable running):
Steel strip (locate in the recesses beneath the floor)
Couplings (the method used is at the builder's discretion)
Magnets (for details see the video below)
