Scale: although Revell box art and literature state these models to be 1/426 scale, they are actually 1/429 scale as confirmed by Loren Perry, owner of Gold Medal Models and holder of the original Revell documents.

Contains 2 booms and 2 pairs of girders.  A set of kingposts, available separately (click here) is needed to produce 2 cranes for one model ship.

Recommended to help build USS Pennsylvania BB-38 from:
These model kit parts are intended to help the modeler convert any 1/700 scale USS Arizona BB-39 model kit to sistership USS Pennsylvania BB-38 as she appeared in 1941.  These boom parts represent the boom, machinery platforms, and the horizontal girders connecting each boom to its swivel at the top of the kingpost.  When combined with the king posts (available separately), they complete one of the ship's large boat/aircraft cranes.

Unlike the port and starboard crane kingposts and turntables, which were mirrored left- and right-handed, the booms for the cranes were identical.  The girders are mirrored left- and right-handed.  Careful study of the photos provided will show how the girders are to be installed.

USS Pennsylvania's cranes were significantly different than USS Arizona's.

Assembly note: the girders are designed to scale and, by themselves, are too thin to print without being printed onto a casting block.  The girders must be removed from the casting block before fixing the girders to the crane.  Acrylic plastic is extremely fragile.  Caution, patience, and a very sharp cutting instrument are recommended when cutting or sanding away the casting block.

Features:
  • overall dimensions match USS Pennsylvania drawings by the esteemed naval draughtsman Alan B. Chesley
  • bolt, nuts and rivets all realistically designed and carefully located to precisely match high-resolution photos of the actual cranes taken at Mare Island in February-March 1942

These 3D-printed acrylic parts are designed to accurately represent features of the actual ship based on authoritative plans.  They are not 3D-printed copies of inaccurate plastic kit parts and therefore are shaped and sized a bit differently.  Some adjustment to your plastic kit's parts or other aftermarket parts such as photoetch or wood decks may be necessary for best fit.
