Product Description

The Mig-13 was the first Soviet jet fighter.

When, during the Second World War, Soviet intelligence became aware of German and Western development of jet engines, a crash program was started to develop aircraft with similar performance. Because no proper jet engines were quickly available, the MIg-13 used an interim solution: a piston engine was used to both drive a conventional propeller and to provide compressed air to an auxiliary jet engine.

The first flight was on the 4th of April 1945, before the end of the war against Germany. Its top speed was 820 Km/h, slower than the Messerschmitt Me-262, but similar to that of other early jets.

After the war, proper jet engines became available and only a small series was built. But it would be an interesting contender in any fictional "Luftwaffe 1946" wargame.
