Product Description
In order to allow for the interchange of narrow gauge and standard gauge rolling stock at the dual gauge yards in Alamosa and Montrose, the D&RGW constructed a small fleet of custom 'idler cars.' These cars were built from flat cars or the frames of scrapped steam locomotive tenders and came equipped with unqiue three way coupler pockets that allowed narrow gauge locomotives to haul standard gauge rolling stock (and vice-versa). This shell is based on idler car X-3050, which is currently preserved at the Colorado Railroad museum in Golden Colorado.

As with all Frosted Ultra Detail (FUD) models, cleaning, painting and decaling are required to complete the frame. Sanding with fine-grit sandpaper is also recommended on the accessible flat surfaces. The car also needs couplers, a deck, Andrews trucks, brake detailing, ladders, grab irons and cut levers (all of which must be sourced separately). Feel free to contact me if you are looking for suggestions as to the specific parts that I recommend.
