During my residency at the Out of Hand exhibit with Shapeways at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD), I created a 3d scan of my hand with a Microsoft Kinect Scanner connected to a PC with the help of Lucas Gossens. After the scan was taken, I cleaned it up (and added a missing finger) in Autodesk Meshmixer. I then brought the STL file into Autodesk 123D Design, and added a hoop to attach a chain to.
This project is mostly of personal significance. In June 2013, my left hand (the one scanned) was broken in a bike accident. After a full year, I've undergone 7 surgeries and over 30 physical therapy sessions to regain full use of the hand. This pin was created as a thank you gift for all of the friends and family that have been supportive along the way.
This piece is printable in Polished White Strong and Flexible Plastic, as well as stainless steel metals in various finishes. Can also be used as a keychain.
