Product Description
Guides for self-contained, rubber-sprung buffers, as used on certain LNWR wagons: 4mm scale, set of 20 guides, to equip 5 wagons. These are modelled from LNWR drawing GA57 for the D38 furniture-van wagon, as reproduced in LNWR wagons, vol.2, by the LNWR society. The buffers are either identical to, or very close to, the standard, self-contained buffer used by the LNWR to convert wagons built with dumb buffers (but beware that the LNWR later changed to using RCH self-contained buffers for this purpose). The self-contained buffers used on some LNWR boiler-trolleys, e.g. D81, are similar to the current model but differ in detail. These guides are designed to produce sprung buffers. They need heads/rams and springs to complete: e.g. MJT part 2374; note that 2.5mm-diameter rams are needed. Please take care with alignment when fitting the buffers. The straight sides at the base of the guides should be horizontal. The bases are slightly asymmetric; the side with the wider flanger should face outward, towards the end of the headstock. This asymmetry is there because, on the full-size wagons, the bolts securing the buffers to the headstock also secured the diagonal braces of the underframe; for good, structural reasons, they could not be symmetric about the buffer centres.
