Product Description
This elegant ornament features 40 circles of different sizes, perfectly packed around a sphere. A circle packing is a pattern of circles drawn in such a way that neighboring circles are tangent and each "gap" between circles is next to exactly three circles.
The circle packing for this ornament was created by John Bowers from the Ars Geometrica Lab in the Department of Computer Science at James Madison Unviersity, who wrote a library called Koebe-Lib for representing constructions in the inversive geometry of circles. This enabled him to generate a random circle packing that exactly covers the sphere of this ornament. The resulting circle data was then used in OpenSCAD to create the final design.
