Product Description
Based on the fusion-powered Amarillo-class, the Krechet class were a wartime experiment that proved the viability of matter-antimatter drives in modern warships. Removing the vast deuterium tankage required for the fusion reactor in favor of the much-more-efficient antimatter core allowed not only a vast increase in available space and mass, but a significant increase in speed, power, and endurance as well.
The Krechet class also traded part of the Amarillo's laser armament for additional missile tubes and a much-increased ammunition bunker. While only a handful were built, and they were superceded as frontline combatants before the war was over, they were key in turning the tide against the invaders and in gaining experience with antimatter-powered combatants.
UES Feuerstein (CCM-4), a veteran of the Battle of the Vela Gap, is on display at the Fleet Museum.
