Product Description
SUCCESS!  I've recreated the mythical lost 1/3 Teaspoon!  If you're a "Foodie" like me, this might be just the thing for testing and perfecting recipes.  Those who use alternatives to sugar might also find this handy.  Many stevia-based products are three times as sweet as sugar, so, in a conversion, 1 teaspoon becomes 1/3.

Many recipes are adaptations of bigger batches.  In doing this, amounts of seasonings were often either reduced to 1/4 teaspoon or rounded up to 1/2 teaspoon.  When it's a sensitive sharp-flavored spice like ground cumin, ajowan (bishop's weed), or nutmeg, the flavor can be thrown wildly off.  Crushed or ground spices taste best when very fresh, so making a big batch might be wasteful.

Strangely, the amount of 1/3 teaspoon appeared fairly often in vintage recipes, up until the 1950's (it shows up in the Betty Crocker cookbooks).  Yet, very seldom did somebody actually own one.  In bygone days, cooks knew that to get 1/3 teaspoon, you could put in 1/4+1/16 ≅ 1/3.  Technically, that's .25 + .0625 = .3125. It's quite close to a real third of about .33.

If you didn't thave a 1/16 teaspoon, you could use half of 1/8.  The problem with that is-- hardly anybody today owns a  1/8 or 1/16 teaspoon, either!  So, I decided to make a 1/3 measuring teaspoon.

Several printing tests later, it was done.  It may look like a frying pan for a mouse, but for me, it's just the right amount of turmeric in a small batch of soup that starts with a cup of red lentils and two quarts of water, and it's just the right amount of dried powdered garlic in my small batch of spaghetti sauce.  For me, it's the Goldilocks measuring spoon: it's juuust right!.

This is a little set that comes with a 1/4 and 1/2 teaspoon as well.  There are small raised markings on the handle.  There are 2,3, and 4 ridges.  These show "how many of these make a teaspoon".
