Product Description
The CSS Virginia was a casemate ironclad built by the Confederacy in 1862 on the burned hulk of the USS Merrimack. The ship was given an iron cover to protect her ten guns and confronted with USS Monitor on 9 March 1862 in the Battle of Hampton Roads. Neither side could hurt the other and so after 3 and a half hours of fighting both ships retired. The ship was eventually blown up to prevent capture by Union troops.
