Product Description
Not behind the ear lobes but on your phenylethanol ear studs, this is where a drop of the mild natural rose odorant phenylethanol belongs. According to Greek lyric poetess Sappho (Σαπφώ, ca. 612–570 BC) the rose is the 'Queen of Flowers', but 'Rose' is as well a princesslike girl with a heart of gold, the face of an angel and phenylethanol ear studs, who makes you feel as though no other girl can compare. Anacreon (Ἀνακρέων, ca. 582–485 BC) called 'rose' the 'Perfume of the Gods', and the favored flower of Venus: Gotta love it!

2-Phenylethanol (benzyl carbinol) is with about 60–75% the main component of rose absolue, and all rose oils ('Scent and Chemistry – The Molecular World of Odors', Verlag Helvetica Chimica Acta/Wiley-VCH, 2012, p. 266–272) obtained by extraction or maceration but not by steam distillation, where it is extracted into the aqueous layer. The resulting steam distillation by-product is called 'rose water', and contains even 70–82% of 2-phenylethanol with its characteristic mild and warm rose odor and sweet honey-like as well as slightly green, hyacinth-type aspects. 2-Phenylethanol constitutes one of the most important synthetic perfumery materials in terms of production volume, and in smaller quantities also occurs in neroli, ylang-ylang, carnation and geranium oils. Since the molecule is compact in shape, the aromatic ring easy to recognize even in a van-der-Waals surface model, and since the slightly curved appearance flatters the shape of the lobulus auriculae with adjacent antitragus, 2-phenylethanol is ideally suited as motif for ear studs.

The dimensions of a single phenylethanol ear stud is ca. 1.4 cm × 0.9 cm × 0.6 cm. The post length is ca. 10 mm, and its diameter is ca. 0.9 mm. It extends from the center of the aromatic ring, like a T-shaped π–π stacking interaction. Two alternative locking notches are set 3.5 mm and 2.0 mm from the end, allowing for two different fitting modes. Designed to be 100% compatible with Thomas Sabo butterfly clips Z881 (Art. No. 4051245085808), but also working with a great variety of other earring backs (earnuts).
