Penrose Pendant

This pendant shows off the elegance of the simplest known solution of a non-periodic tiling of a plane. It is based on the Rhombus P3 Penrose Tiling. Sir Roger Penrose investigated ways to create non-periodic tilings using a minimum number of tile shapes. He found that it could be done with just 2 shapes. Previously, it had been thought to require 6 shapes, and before that, as many as 20,426! The tiles are constructed from shapes related to the pentagon, and hence also to the golden ratio.
