Shamrock Knot Pendant

The Celtic Shamrock is the unofficial symbol of Ireland. It is closely tied to the legend of St. Patrick. The legend says he used the three leaves of the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to people during his mission there. The symbol caught on and he of course won over many people over to the Christian faith. The shamrock is a clover, which are very prevalent in Ireland. The shamrock or clover is sometimes considered also might be a symbol of bundance or fertility. This could be because at one time it was a food source for livestock. The Celtic Shamrock is one of many Celtic symbols that refer to the Holy Trinity. The others are the Trinity Knot and the Triskele (or Triple Spiral) symbols. Like those, the Shamrock can stand for any “triad”. Examples of this would be “life, death, rebirth” or “Earth, Sea, Sky”.
