Product Description

Spriggina evolved during the Ediacaran period (635-540 ma)

It was one of the first multi-cellular, complex lifeforms to appear on Earth.

Spriggina is of great interest to palaeontology as it seems to display a number of key evolutionary traits. These include bilateral symmetry, a 'head' and 'tail', self-locomotion and even the possible suggestion of a mouth and light sensitive buds on its horseshoe shaped head.

Some analysis suggests that Spriggina may be related to arthropods such as trilobites but the fossils of this period are so faint that it is hard to draw any conclusive observations.

This is a Paleozoo model. Paleozoo aims to provide an outline of Palaeozoic evolution - expressed in a collection of museum-grade lifeform models.

Paleozoo is the creation of Bruce Currie, an award winning career animator with a lifelong interest in palaeontology and the mechanics of evolution.

Expert advice has been received from the palaeontological community to ensure that the models are anatomically accurate, with each model undergoing numerous points of refinement.
