The superior frontal gyrus (SFG) lobe makes up about one third of the frontal lobe of the human brain. The superior frontal gyrus (SFG) is involved in self-awareness, in coordination with the action of our sensory system. Another essential function of the superior frontal gyrus is its role in working memory (WM). This refers to pieces of information we hold for short lengths of time, allowing for the completion of complex mental tasks. Research performed on individuals with lesions or damage to the superior frontal gyrus found that they had difficulties performing tasks requiring the use of this form of memory. Frontal Lobes: The frontal lobes are one of the four main lobes or regions of the cerebral cortex. They are positioned at the front most region of our cortex and are involved in movement, decision-making, problem solving, and planning.
