This is a set of of *TWO* pairs of bogies - that is four bogies in total, enough for two carriages.
The South African Railways 2286mm wheelbase Commonwealth bogies were the first departure by the SAR from plate frame bogies (Like the "Watson" and "Day" bogies) and are named after the US company that supplied the castings to the SAR. They came into use in the late 1960s
They were used under the early steel bodied clerestory roof passenger carriages such as the C-34 and E-16.
A modified version of the early Commonwealth bogie was fitted to the original Blue Train in the late 1960s, and went on in service when the stock was repurposed for the Drakensberg Express - These modified bogies can be found listed seperately in our shop
This set of four bogies is available in Smooth Fine Detail and Smoothest Fine Detail plastic and are the most highly detailed South African bogies on offer in HO Scale for 16.5mm track gauge. They include accurate bolster profiles and brake rigging. They require M2 screws for fixing and Steam Era Models 9.6mm diameter 12mm gauge wheelsets (WN4).
