Product Description

Consists of a jig that might help when shaping sheet support rails for the Shockhood B model (straight verticals for the central rail on one side, and on the other side, with an offset to make the side rails clear the central rail close to the mounting block on the end of the wagon. There is also a template to draw or cut round on the material you use for the sheet (for example, thin paper, perhaps cigarette paper) and former for it - cut the cigarette paper or other very thin material to the shape of the flat template, then fold it over the profile former, fold the ends down, overlap them and stick them. Trim to perfect when dry. This is roughly what I did when I scratchbuilt one years ago, but without the benefit of ready made gizmos like these. Let me try it first and amend the parts in the light of experience. UPDATE Corrected the height of the sheet rail bend and made it easier to orient. Reduced the underedge on the sheet former to make it easier to clean. Made sheet former and template shorter to give the sheet a tighter fit over the sheet rails. These tools work well. Pressing down on the clear template on top of the chosen material on a cutting mat holds it still as you cut around with a sharp scalpel. Folding the cut material along the lines where the supports will go is also facilitated by holding the sheet under the long straight edge of the tool still flat on the cutting mat, lifting the free edge of the sheet off the mat and finally pushing against the edge of the template with something suitable - I used the sheet former former as it was handy - as firmly as necessary to get a well defined fold. Well all the long folds were done, the sheet is opened out over the sheet former and the ends folded down to overlap and glued with a trace of Evo-stik. I managed to make a sheet from ordinary kitchen foil this way and paint it grey with acrylics while still on the former. When dry the paint gives it a little extra rigidity. I reckon I could even use thin plastic bag, if I find any with a suitable grey colour. It certainly cuts out well under the template. NOTE I have also uploaded a corresponding toolkit for the Shockhood A, identical in most respects but 4mm shorter in this scale. Please be sure about which one you want before ordering.
