Product Description

3d printable sandstone rail ties prototype idea...
Print Material: Sandstone
Note: Shapeways Sandstone vs Sandstone in nature may have significantly different traits - This particular prototype is idea to be tested and facts from different sources to be evaluated! Results may include new materials even for 3d printing toys!

Material trait test (Google & WIki sources): "Sandstone (being less expensive to manufacture than steel), more durable than wood (rots faster) and concrete (small cracks in concrete can cause water to seep through and expand as ice in winter causing bigger cracks and ultimately failure as a load bearing mechanism). It is also shockproof which might come handy in case of an earthquake ( Being prone to weathering sandstone is also less likely to get damaged compared to wood in areas with high rainfall/heavy downpour or chilli conditions. iT ALSO HAS A HIGHER TENSILE STRENGTH THAN WOOD RAIL TIES...... Not to mention, sandstone is lighter than steel and concrete and hence easier and quicker to relocate (less railway maintance/operating cost)... as well as less likely to get damaged in case of a rock slide unlike concrete and wood" (Google and wiki sources)

Prototype to be used in a simulation model to test for load bearing strength (for railway tracks and train) as well as to check the type of spikes and fasteners to be used on a sandstone rail ties...

Application: railways, zoo and circus for toy trains, theme parks for similar rides
