FRB01 - FR2 Ton Iron Slate Wagon (Unbraked, no Coupling)
Introduced in the 1850s to reduce maintenance costs on the wagon fleet, this type quickly became the most numerous in use on the FR, the design remaining unchanged throughout their extensive lifespan.
The model features full undeframe detailing and an easy to build design of axlebox assembly . The boxes themselves are sold separately, use either Plain (
AB01) or Split (
AB02) Axleboxes as well as couplings CPL01 to finish.
Any of the Slaters FR Wheels are suitable.
To assemble a wagon, attach a coupling to each end, retaining the tail in place along the central spine with a 16BA screw (or prferably an M0.8 nut and bolt from the Prime Miniatures range).
Test fit each axlebox in the respctive socket in the wagon underframe. If it is tight, a light stroke of a file on the front face of the axlebox 'plug' should be all that is required. Slater's wheel bearings simply press fit in the rear of the axlebox. Pop an axlebox on each end of an axle and press them into the wagon underframe, securing with the pins supplied with the axleboxes, or alternatively suitable hex headed scale hardware.
