<a href="http://modelmonkey.wixsite.com/modelmonkey"><strong><span style="font-size:12pt;">Catalog (click here)</span></strong></a><br /><br /><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Scale: 1/426</strong></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Contains two (2) turrets without barrels.</strong></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Recommended for Revell's 1/426 scale USS <em>Pine Island </em>(# 85-013)</strong></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:14px;">Among naval historians, the <strong>US</strong><strong> Navy 5"/38 caliber gun</strong> is considered the best intermediate-caliber, dual purpose naval gun of World War II.  This type was installed on several classes of destroyers, destroyer escorts, auxiliaries such as Currituck class seaplane tenders.  </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>The "Heavyweight" or "Double Knuckle" version</strong> was normally placed in locations where roof reinforcement was required to protect the mount from the blast of the superfiring turret above it.  The <strong>late version,</strong> reproduced here, appeared sometime after 1942, had a different arrangement of stiffeners on the front of the gunhouse and additional fasteners on access hatches than the earlier design.  An alarm bell was often fitted to the rear of the mount.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>The "Lightweight" version is available separately. </strong></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Features:</strong> </span><br /><br /><br /><ul><li><span style="font-size:14px;"> an asymmetrical gunhouse (turret)</span></li><li><span style="font-size:14px;"> accurately offset gun opening</span></li><li><span style="font-size:14px;"> accurately offset barrel slot (when looking at the front of the turret, the barrel should align to the RIGHT side of the opening)</span></li><li><span style="font-size:14px;"> detailed turret bottom supporting structure</span></li><li><span style="font-size:14px;"> rear vent and alarm bell </span></li></ul><span style="font-size:14px;">​</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:14px;">Some <strong>part cleanup</strong> will be necessary.  The 3D printing process uses a waxy substance to support certain part features during the printing process.  Although the parts are cleaned by Shapeways, some waxy residue may remain.  It can be safely removed with water and a mild aqueous detergent like "<strong>Simple Green</strong>" using an old, soft toothbrush, Q-tips or pipe cleaners.  Customers report that "<strong>Bestine</strong>" and "<strong>Goo Gone</strong>" also work well.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:14px;">During the printing process, liquid resin is cured by ultraviolet light.  Microscopic bits of resin may remain uncured.  <strong>Let your Frosted Detail parts sit in direct sunlight for a few hours to fully cure the resin.  </strong></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>For painting Frosted Detail plastic, w</strong><strong>ater-based acrylic paints</strong> meant for plastics is strongly recommended.  Other paints, especially enamels, may not cure on Frosted Detail 3D-printed plastics.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>© Model Monkey Book and Hobby.  This 3D-printed item may not be copied or recast.</strong></span><br /><br />
