Rob Ennis presents: the Goonch

The goonch is a clever sort of creature. Its habitat is equatorial wetland, where it draws in prey using false pheromones and by mimicking the cries of young animals. When a hapless critter comes quite near, the goonch will employ electrical impulses to stun prey at close range, using water or mud to conduct the shock. If the local environment becomes too dry, the slow-moving goonch will inflate its digestion sacs with hydrogen, and be carried by wind at low altitude until more favorable conditions are found. This is inherently dangerous, and desiccated goonch bodies have found in far-flung deserts and forests. Of note, if lightning should strike an inflated goonch, the explosion is said to be quite breathtaking.
