Product Description
The Federation studied several designs for cruisers that could be produced more cheaply than the excellent Constitution-class. The first one actually built was the Prometheus-class strike cruiser, which used the same engines and a saucer similar to the heavy cruiser (but revised internally), mated to a much-smaller rear hull.

The resulting ship had less mass, more available-power, and better weapon arcs, and was considered to be something of a "hot rod" cruiser. However, in-service it showed shortcomings that prevented it from entering mass-production. The few built were relegated to the Sixth Fleet, on the (then quiet) Romulan border.

The term "strike" cruiser has no specific meaning in the Star Fleet Universe, but is used for any number of "alternative cruiser designs" which have little to do with each other. The Klingons and Federation use the term to mean a cruiser with one smaller section reducing the overall cost while keeping the larger part of the design intact.

The ship is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
