This is a torus formed of 12 touching Mobius strips, every one interlinked with every other one. The twist allows you to see inside the torus, while the strips remain connected. The centers of the strips can also be seen as a set of circles of the Hopf fibration, which maps the surface of a hypersphere in 4D to our entire 3D space. (For a stunning video of the Hopf Fibrations, see: nilesjohnson.net/hopf.html ). These circles are also called Villarceau circles, which you get by cutting a hollow torus with a plane that is tangent to it on both its top and its bottom (see Wikipedia).
