The robust
A.E.G. C.IV must have seemed a natural starting point for a superb ground-attack aircraft. 400kg of armor plate in nine sections was bolted to the steel-tube fuselage, protecting both engine and crew. The engine was upgraded to the 200hp Benz Bz.IV, and lower-wing ailerons were added to increase maneuverability. The pilots gun was sacrificed. In later-model J.Is, the fuselage was lengthened and provision was made for two downward-firing machine guns, firing through the floor of the observer's position.
This product comes in several scales.
The 1:285/6mm/1:288 product contains two aeroplanes and detachable, translucent propeller disks rather than propeller blades. They are joined by disposable links to keep the price down, since single-part models are more affordable. You can break the links with nail clippers, wire cutters, or similar.
The 1:600 and 1:700 product contains six aeroplanes joined by a sprue, which you'll have to carefully remove.
DESIGNER NOTE:
Models at scales smaller than 1:144 may no longer be available. Shapeways discontinued the material for which they were designed, and the newer materials require that each and every model be adjusted to thicken surfaces like wings. If you are interested in a particular model in a small scale, please let me know and I will prioritize it higher in the queue.
