This intentionally minimalist mount allows the suspension of the Samsung Gear 360 (or similar) from a line.
It is small enough to be carried with your camera in daily life, allowing for impromptu mid-air snaps.
A line is fed through the holes and the Gear 360 is permitted to be moved along the line. The two 'ears' allow the camera to be fixed at any point along the line with the addition of a small rubber O-ring.
When the cable is aligned between the lenses it 'hides' within the lenses' parallax. Thus it is possible to take pictures without the suspending cable being visible. The mount itself is also not visible to the camera.
This arrangement allows the camera to be positioned in places normally not possible with a conventional tripod type mount or a drone. For example; being placed above people for prolonged periods of time or where the use of a drone is prohibited.
As the camera is suspended up-side-down from the line, it is therefore necessary to use the appropriate software to correct this (such as the Samsung Gear App). The use of a remote shutter will also be required.
The mount will require the addition of an easily obtainable 1/4" mounting screw (Item in photo uses Neewer Stainless Steel 1/4" Mounting Screw without ring and a 10mm shaft length SKU 10078001) and a plumbers o-ring to complete. The line shown is 250lb fishing line. Other types of line can be used but metal lines should be avoided due to the potential wear on the mount.
In addition to the main cable guides positioned on top of the mount, an internal routing is also provided. The main purpose of this is to allow the Gear 360 and mount to be connected to the centre of a line without the need to feed in the line from one of the ends. The line is simply inserted into the mount and then the mount is secured to the Gear 360. As the line now needs to bend around the screw-shaft, the line is somewhat restricted from moving. The degree of restriction is dependent on the line diameter and tension.
This internal routing can also be used to pull the camera along the suspending line by looping a separate, thinner, cable around the screw-shaft (sometimes with the use of a tied loop). Assuming the pull cable is also kept tought, this will also not be visible to the camera.
Two low strength tie bars are also provided (90 degrees from the main line) for any use someone may find for them.
Please note that due to this being a very light weight one line system, it is best suited to still air conditions and the filming of video is probably only practical indoors. Photos can be more tolerant; the above picture on the cliff was taken on a windy day.
