The Falcon's cockpit door in ANH is never seen closed during the whole movie. And indeed it's not clear if a door was ever installed in the original set. Only from ESB onwards did the ship have a moving cockpit door.
However, the Bandai 1:72 “Perfect Grade” Falcon model has an ESB-era cockpit design, and it has a permanently closed door which is inconsistent with its ANH exterior. So I've designed a replacement.
This is version 1, which has the door and frame as separate components so you can have the door in any position you want. You just need to carefully cut out the existing door from the transparent backwall with great care. I had a look into motorizing it, but frankly there just isn't enough room in the cockpit tube for even a tiny linear servo motor. Oh, well.
Because the port doorframe is open to allow the door to move, the frame is quite thin. So I've had to put a small brace piece to keep the frame sturdy while it's being printed. This will need to be cut off before the door's installed, obviously. There's a very tiny hole in the middle of the door so you can illuminate it if you wish, as the ESB and ROTJ doors had multi-segment LEDs there blinking away. This doorframe also has the tiny bolts that the original set had – something that Bandai couldn't include in their version, because of limits to injection moulding.
It also means that you need to cut all the bracing out of the cockpit tunnel components and install a corridor of some sort, of course. I'm working on a corridor, but it's not done yet.
