Product Description

Despite its name, a sloop-of-war is not necessarily a sloop, with the term used on any unrated (fewer than 20 guns) naval vessel during the 18th and 19th centuries.  Early sloops-of-war were two masted, based on either a brigantine or ketch rig, but not a schooner, as they were considered too slow for the roles that a sloop-of-war would fill, such as pirate/smuggler hunting or communication ("advice") running.  Full-rigged sloops-of-war, such as this one, did not appear until the mid 18th century, and did not become widely used in navies around the world until the late 18th century, possibly even the early 19th century, since so many two-masted sloops-of-war were already in use.  This particular model is a 1/1000 scale version of the sloop-of-war I made for The Pirate Republic, by Green Feet Games.  The actual game token is smaller, at 1/1250 scale.  That being said, this model is their property, and on my page merely to show my contribution and generate awareness of the game - I cannot offer it for sale, so please don't ask.
