The study on the R-130 started in 1946 by the french company MATRA, and was meant to be a supersonic interceptor. It had two sets of wings : long ones for subsonic flight and short ones, that were mounted on the top and bottom of the plane, for supersonic flight. The subsonic wings would be retracted midflight for the aircaft to roll 90° so that it could fly with its supersonic wings.
