The System Activity Maintenance Station (SAM) was the smallest of the manned bases used by Star Fleet. Other empires used similar facilities, so a single design will suffice for all of them. SAM Stations could not be used as a point of supply or fleet repair due to their small size. Their sole function was to provide defenses and docking facilities for a small colonial planet. SAM Stations are armed, although the weapons vary from colony to colony and empire to empire. A SAM Station had about the firepower of a frigate. Any given SAM Station had a pair of military phasers, a pair of short-range defensive phasers, and two heavier weapons such as a disruptor, a drone rack, a fusion beam, or plasma rack, always using the common weapons of the owning empire. The central section is the size of a pod and could be carried and deployed by tugs, transports, or freighters. The two modules are standard base augmentation modules (many types are available depending on need). A typical SAM Station would have a power module and a fighter module with six fighters, but other combinations are possible based on the specific needs of the colonial planet.
This base is available in a variety of materials. Bases are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
