The traditional design known as Metatron's Cube has 6 circles around a central circle and another 6 circles continuing outwards. The centers of every circle are then connected by lines.
In this 3d form the central sphere is surrounded by 12 spheres which are then surrounded by another 12. Again the centers are joined, making this an exact 3d analogy to the 2d Metatron's Cube.
This is by no means the only remarkable thing about this form !
Each of the shells of 12 spheres is in the form of a cuboctahedron. This is one of the most important 3d geometries and given by Buckminster Fuller the name Vector Equilibrium.
