The WYN Star Cluster stands as a huge beacon at the crossroads of the galaxy. Marking the point where the Klingon, Lyran, and Kzinti borders meet, the cluster itself was long considered uninhabitable. Surrounded by a dense cloud of highly radioactive dust, it was assumed that the entire cluster was saturated with deadly radiation. All residents of the WYN Cluster are immigrants from other species and empires.
The backbone of the WYN Navy was formed by Kzinti-built frigates which the WYNs improved with a fourth engine, heavier shields, and more weapons. All of those extras meant that the ships required far more maintenance than any standard ship, but this was no problem in the tiny and rich WYN Cluster where no ship was more than a day or two from a repair base. The number of these ships fluctuated during history. The first ones were two survivors of the Usurper's original fleet, which had to be almost entirely rebuilt anyway. Others were received from the surrounding empires as gifts. (The Klingons, Orions, and Lyrans are known to have captured Kzinti frigates and sold them to the WYNs as they couldn't effectively use the ships themselves. The Kzintis sometimes sold or gave a frigate to the WYNs to gain a more favorable trade status.) During one of the Kzinti intrusions into the WYN Cluster, two badly damaged frigates were captured and converted to this design.
The ship is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
