DIY Regal Round Halo Pendant
Have you always wanted a pendant that was a classic design that had gems of real size, not those itsy-bittsy micro-pave gems you see in the mall jewelry stores.
This pendant design is perfect for a colorful center gem (lab grown ruby or sapphire, mined garnet, amethyst, citrine, aquamarine, blue topaz or peridot) and ten brilliant white gems (cubic zirconia, sapphire, topaz or zircon). And yes, you can use more expensive gems (mined diamond, ruby, sapphire, emerald, morganite, golden beryl) or you can make the center stone clear (eg white Topaz) and the halo gems red (eg Pyrope Garnet) or you can make all the gems the same color.
Well, with a little DIY work-equity, now you can have a pendant any young duchess, princess or queen would feel comfortable wearing.
This design is DIYJewelry, it will require you to:
gently push some 10 mm and 5 mm gems (cubic zirconia, or lab grown rubies, or lab grown sapphires, etc.) into pre-notched settings,
(the no-ink end of a PaperMate Write Brothers ballpoint pen works great for the 5mm gems, thumb for the 10 mm gem)
and maybe gently squeeze those settings with tiny flat needle nose craft pliers from Joann Fabrics or Michaels Crafts or Sears to be sure the gems will stay in place.
Measurements: each Regal Round Halo Pendant is 25.6 mm wide by 32.7 mm tall (includes a bail) by 7.7 mm deep, (1.00 inch wide by 1.29 inch tall (includes a bail) by 0.30 inch tall).
Quantity: 1 pendant is cast as one unit, no cutting
Recommended gem sizes:
faceted calibrated 10 mm diameter round gem (one per pendant)
faceted calibrated 5 mm diameter round gem (ten per pendant)
Buy the gems by size, not by carat weight, but here are some sample weights per gem for mined gems:
per single faceted calibrated round gem:
gemtype 10 mm 5 mm
Amethyst 3.30 carats 0.40 carats
Aquamarine 3.50 carats 0.44 carats
Citrine 3.30 carats 0.40 carats
Diamond 3.50 carats 0.47 carats
Emerald 6.10 carats 0.48 carats
Pyrope Garnet 5.75 carats 0.60 carats
Peridot 5.25 carats 0.50 carats
Ruby 4.50 carats 0.54 carats
Sapphire 4.50 carats 0.54 carats
Topaz 5.75 carats 0.56 carats
A medium weight (eg 1.6 mm curb chain) or heavier chain is appropriate for this pendant.
(Sorry I have no way to get you the gems, but the faceted calibrated 10 mm and 5 mm diameter gems are a very standard size, available in most towns, and online.)(Send me a message if you have trouble finding what you want, I will provide you wil the contact info for my regular suppliers.)
Cautionary note about the 'natural silver / rough cast silver' material - it is rough, exactly as it comes from casting. If you are a jeweler with the proper finishing and polishing tools, that is fine, you will be able to do standard polishing. It is labor intensive and a little technical; so I do not recommend this finish for anyone who does not have standard jewelers studio polishing equipment.
