Inspired by the cartoonist Roland Emett and his narrow gauge ‘Far Tottering & Oyster Creek Railway’, this freelance 009 scale engine is one of several novelty models designed in his style as a homage to the delightfully peculiar machines in the original drawings.
‘Gladys’ is an 0-4-0 tender engine used for mixed passenger and goods services. Once assembled with tender (separately available), this scratch aid enables a fully working powered model engine. The minimum necessary loading gauge required is 44mm from rail height.
IMPORTANT: while most models available here have been pre-tested and known to work, this scratch-aid has not been printed/tested by myself, so while the measurements appear correct it is considered strictly experimental.
(Note: various materials are provided, however, WNV and BNV will require more preparation for smooth painting that FUD and FED.)
The following additional parts need to be sourced separately to complete:
‘Gladys’ tender (separately available)
Graham Farish Jinty driving wheels (available as spares); 10.5mm diameter including flange, 1.5mm axle
Graham Farish Jinty coupling rods (to be cut down)
Weight (the boiler is hollow)
Styrene strip (for wheel keeper plates)
Couplings (ELC couplings can be modified, but the method used is at the builder's discretion)
Only requiring two wheelset, remaining wheels can be used with a variety of other Newman Miniatures products, including ‘Ethel’ in this same range.
I hope you enjoy this unusual and eye-catching model.
