Shapeways Announces Partnership With Carbon ®, Bringing The Most Advanced 3d Printing Technologies And Materials To Its Customers

3D printing industry leaders come together to enable small and midsize businesses easy access to innovative materials

New York, NY – February 28, 2019 – Shapeways, the world’s leading manufacturer of 3D printed goods for small and mid-sized businesses globally, today announced its partnership with Carbon, Inc., the revolutionary Digital Manufacturing Platform, based in Silicon Valley. With this partnership, Shapeways’ customers will now have access to Carbon’s unique Digital Light Synthesis™ (DLS™) technology and materials, making new business and product opportunities possible.

By becoming a Carbon Certified Production Partner, Shapeways continues to lead the industry by offering businesses the ability to work with the world’s most cutting edge and innovative 3D technologies and materials. Carbon has been a pioneer in the digital manufacturing industry since its founding in 2013, and has worked with world-renowned brands such as Ford and Lamborghini in the automotive space for example, to digitally manufacture auto parts at scale.

“Shapeways is on a mission to make 3D printing technology accessible to every entrepreneur who strives to bring their innovations to life and build a business”, said Greg Kress, CEO of Shapeways. “The partnership with Carbon will enable us to support our customers better in their mission to push the boundaries of their industries”

Carbon DLS ™ technology presents exciting opportunities not previously possible with more conventional approaches to additive manufacturing. With access to flexible materials, products that were previously un-makeable can be produced more economically and at scale.

At launch, the materials available for Shapeways’ customers will include the following:

  • Elastomeric polyurethane (EPU 40), a highly elastic tear resistant and resilient material- great for printing foam like products
  • Rigid polyurethane (RPU 70), a versatile, tough and rigid material- great for consumer products, classified UL 94 HB flame resistant
  • Urethane methacrylate (UMA 90), a tough, rigid resin similar to conventional SLA- used to manufacture jigs and fixtures

“We are thrilled that through our partnership with Shapeways, we can make the Carbon Platform accessible to more businesses around the world” said Dana McCallum, Head of Production Partners for Carbon.
