Hi Twisty Puzzles fans,
Moonshine (a.k.a Weird Disk 2xminus5) is an example of a two-dimensional, deeper-than-origin, shallower-than-corner doctrinaire twisty puzzle. Feel free to do an internet search, or check the
Twisty Puzzle Forum for the meaning of these terms. This circle puzzle has two types of turns. One turn is a twofold rotation of the circle at the right. The other turn is a deeper-than-origin rotation of the whole outer flower in steps of 72 degrees, while the inner part remain stationary.
It may have been Evgeniy Gregoriev who first discovered examples of this class of "
shallower-than-corner", see
this post at the Twisty Puzzles Forum ("Sphere Un35 v2"). Moonshine is a flat version, and possibly the least complex member of this class. The name of this puzzle is because it features
crescent shapes.
Dmitry Andreev (a.k.a. Pluton) made a
nice extended version in acrylic.
