Does the open source outboard suck?

  1. Hello,
I got my first printer 4 months ago (building my third now) and I created a 3d printable outboard motor for rc watercraft (boats). I think it is a cool thing, and I think others might like it as well.

I posted it to a couple places (reddit/rcgroups.com) but got minimal feedback. I don't want to be annoying about it and post everywhere in the internets. So the advice I'm asking for is how can I promote this to a larger audience? It is open-source so I expect no financial gain (I already have a job and if this became work I probably wouldn't like it anymore).

My honest hope is to get some people interested that are smarter than me that can help me understand how to improve it. I believe it is running at around 50% potential performance (wild guess that I had to stand up from my chair to pull out).

I also think it has potential to be modified with more exotic propulsion systems and I would LOVE to see/be a part of that.

Either it sucks and I'm delusional and people are too nice to tell me the truth. Or it is just white noise amongst all the other awesome designs that are coming out.

I thank you for your time, and any advice I might receive. Have an awesome day and may your filament stick with precision.

    Hallo Ken,

Your design looks great I'll say. You have an eye for detail. It might run at 50% because of that detail ;)
The layers on a 3D Print can give moving parts lots of friction. Especially with small components. (I can not tell the size of your print)

For more feetback on your work you can try Thingiverse https://www.thingiverse.com
It has a big commuity and user base.

If you upload a design and people Like & Download it. You'll get more popularity (and might get featured)
Thats a good indication that people like your design.
Might get more feedback if you ask for it in the description?

I've uploaded designs that are still popular at Thingiverse:

I hope I gave you some helpful advise.

If you're in to making miniature boat parts, try finding a forum of people that build miniature boats? See what they think and see what else they may need made.
