For those fine details you will need silver. In steel you won't see it on that scale. For the finish I would say raw silver. You can use some chemicals or an egg to oxide the silver. If you use a silver cleaning cloth after it on the details, you will get something close to that look.

  3. question, stainless steel looks like it would show some detail, the item that I am buying https://www.shapeways.com/product/X...rd-coin-necklace?optionId=62336879&li=ostatus
is a bit bigger than the one pictured, anyways if I order in stainless steel it wouldn't be as detailed as raw silver? even in that size?

  4. the price difference is twice the price for stainless steel vs raw silver almost so if the difference is not going to be drastic I would rather go with stainless steel, check out this coin, it seems somewhat similar and the effect was done through stainless steel

Given the prevalence of nickel allergy, nickel plating may not be a good choice for jewelry even if not worn directly on the skin.

  6. I have no nickel allergy but ended up going with a stainless steel cause I want more of a gray look, similar to the photo I posted, I mean 35.00 compared to 75.00 is cheaper for an item that could look very similar when compared so I think stainless steel should be fine as far as detailed, I have no experience with the material though.

In my experience there is a huge difference in level of detail between steel and precious metals. In the first picture you shared the pendant seems pretty small, that's why I advice silver. The design guidelines for the materials give some more insight in the exact measurements required for visible details. You could also browse the marketplace to see some more material examples.

  8. Ok so do you think with this size being larger stainless steel would show the details similar to the image that I posted? like I said I don't want to spend twice the amount if its going to be similar, I did see examples and it seems detailed but also some of the coins are oxidized which I am not sure if that would happen (similar to the original picture I uploaded)
