For example, a figure may only have some pieces that need to be polished, multiple colors involved, metal parts and plastic parts to make the complete figure. If one could designate multiple items with varying attributes all as one purchase, with the idea that the end user will put them together to make a completed item, in this case an action figure, it would allow for a simplified process for customers wanting such things.

    Thanks,

Not just for different materials/colors. Even multiple items that would make up 1 set or kit.
I also find it lacking that we can't combine multiple items (including that of others?) into 1 bundle, with a bundle price.

This is indeed something that we want to do, and have been making some great strides towards being able to tackle in the future. The technical answer is that we've over the past two years made some upgrades to our tech architecture that supports product sets, but have not yet begun working on implementing the feature with a UI and UX interface.

For the immediate time moving forward however, it is not on our list of projects that we're actively working on as there are some other more pressing requests we are prioritizing that will benefit everyone using Shapeways :)
