I'm wondering if anyone has worn a ring made from polished gold steel for any amount of time and whether the plating has eventually rubbed off? Thanks! Kimberly
https://www.shapeways.com/product/M...ring-in-polished-gold-steel?optionId=61903813 If you look at the edges you can see steel coming through. This is after a couple of months of wear and tear. I carried it around in a plastic box so it got jumbled a lot. I actually like the effect. It kind of works for this design and makes the texture and finish more interesting.
I like your design; it's pretty and classic! I don't like that the gold rubs off, though. It's okay if it's a ring you've designed and ordered for yourself, but when you have to explain something like this to customers who might want to purchase it, little alarm bells go off in their heads. I've sold pendants in this material without any qualms because they get less wear. But a ring? Hmmm, going to have to think about that one. Thanks for your input! This is exactly the info I needed.
Great to see what the wear is like, thanks. Agreed its something to consider. Ive been wearing one of my stacking rings out of polished gold to see if it wore when rubbed against others. It has a little on a couple of edges but nothing like the above so far but its only been a month.
