I wonder which printer is used and how quality compares to a Formlabs Form 1, to which I have access at the local fab lab. Also there is an Objet here, but I don't like its material's rough white surface, which quickly stains.
Some model by EnvisionTEC according to Daphne's talk on "shapeways live" (see youtube channel). From what's been seen in the Announcement and Materials threads, print quality looks promising but does not quite appear to have stabilized yet unfortunately.
@mkroeker Thanks and sorry for the late response! I finally received a print about two weeks ago. There were a lot of support scars on the outside surface, and so I had to sand and polish it. Although the print is colored opaque black, I followed the steps detailed in the article Polishing Clear Resin for a Transparent Finish published by Formlabs. The result in the end is quite nice, but labor intense. Unfortunately, in the case of the particular model, it wouldn't make sense to have the support on the inside: For technical reasons, there are very fine details, and I cannot imagine that it's possible to break away support without causing issues. Also, the outside would need to be polished anyhow. The print is not smooth, even without the support scars. Fine steps are visible.
