[I wrote the below text when creating this thread but it didn't get posted for some reason, another web bug? So I've repasted it below.]
I've read similar threads about scaling by other members and then read that the problem has recently been fixed, but I'm still seeing issues when I upload my .stl models, primarily when I design them using inch units. I just uploaded a 5" x 5" x 0.25" model that is well within the size limits but I get a popup message saying it needed to be rescaled, and a new size is reported (4.399 x 4.399 x 0.25) slightly smaller than the original (see my attached .jpg file). So three questions:
1) I don't want ANY scaling, and the main web page still shows it as 5x x 5y x 0.25z inches, so if I was to print this what would be the actual size?
2) Even if I accepted the scaling, it only rescaled in x and y, not z, so technically this is NOT a rescaling but a warping to make it fit in some max box. How is this considered a rescale?
3) Below on the web page (not shown in jpg) I see that every s&f plastic is printable having passed autochecks. On other models (mm units) I've uploaded, if the model was too small in some dimension I would see failed autochecks and then be able to investigate where the failure was. Why is the behavior so different for inch units?
I'm hoping this issue gets fixed once and for all. Otherwise, I love using Shapeways!
Thanks.
