3D printing is accessible to everyone through easy-to-use 3D modeling tools and apps. If you don't know how to 3D model or want to create something quickly and easily, you can start with an image or drawing and convert it to a 3D model using our 2D to 3D app.
Shapeways and Skillshare have teamed up to bring you an Introduction to 3D Printing course taught by our very own Lauren Slowik. You’ll learn how to model a 3D, hand-held, print-ready object from start to finish.
When you start 3D modeling be patient. Keep an eye on some details, like the texture your material of choice will have, and the effect of that in the aesthetics of your design. It’s always a good idea to start slow, and take note of the information available in the Shapeways site and forums in order to avoid frustrations.
Shapeways is the world's leading 3D Printing marketplace and community. We enable anyone to make, buy, and sell products with 3D Printing.
Anyone with an idea and an internet connection can use our 3D printing services. Well that may be a little simplistic but our goal is to make high quality 3D printing available to everyone. Lucky for you you get an educator discount too.
The list of 3D design software is growing all the time. Some free beginner softwares you can try are Tinkercad, 123D Design, and Sketchup. For a complete list of 3D design software check out our make FAQs. If you’re not sure which software to start with try taking a look at our introduction to 3D design tutorials.
All of our designs are created by our community members. If you or your students want to create a model for printing yourself you can check out our tutorials section. If that’s not your speed we also have a section of expert designers for hire.
Of course! The great thing about 3D printing is that there is no minimum order. That little replacement robotics part? No problem.
The answer to this questions comes in a few steps. First, if you have a 3D model already you can upload it and get an instant quote for every material that your model is printable in. This is the most accurate way to know the price of your print. You may also estimate your cost by calculating the area of your object in cubic centimeters and using our materials comparison sheet for pricing.
