WOW! This cap in raw brass is IMPRESSIVE! Brand new, the color is much lighter than what's shown in the "Digital Preview" The real thing looks like gold to me. It'll be interesting to watch it oxidize as time goes on and develop a patina naturally. It has some heft to it when I roll it around in my palm like rolling dice. As my Esc key, it makes a solid "thump, thump, thump" sound when I pound on it. It just feels solid, like metal, instead of light and hollow plastic. The Topre stem fits great. On the design, you can see some really intricate details (I need to find a magnifying glass to be able to really appreciate it), with noticeably finer details than the same thing in orange strong & flexible plastic. Honestly, I could have been fooled if you told me this is a piece of Aztec artifact featuring the sun god Tonatiuh, made of 24K gold, unearthed from an archaeological dig in Tenochtitlan.
I am so glad I got this. I was a little hesitant at first as I am not someone who shells out top dollar (like $60-200+) for a single custom cap, but I am looking for something more unique/special than just regular keys in different colors. After getting it in S&F plastic to get a sense of the fit and design, I took the plunge and got it in raw brass. I am just blown away and it's totally worth it. It's something that I touch and feel many times a day in the office, and it brings a smile to my face and a little joy to my heart every time. And some would say . . . THAT . . . is priceless.
