The Bearina IUD<\/a> is a political product. It demonstrates the disruptive
\npotential of 3D printed Open Designs to give free and global access to
\nessential products, and circumvent industries (such as the Pharma
\nindustry) that aggressively defend their intellectual property to
\ncontrol the price and availability of their products. As an Open Design,
\n the Bearina IUD promotes collaborative development and free sharing of
\nknowledge. Further developed by a networked community or in partnership
\nwith a forward looking pharma company, It is always available for
\nexperimenting with and improving, and could evolve into a functional
\nIUD. <\/p>\n

The Bearina, with its bear head image, is visually
\nfriendly, to appeal, so to speak, to younger women. It is a conceptual
\nproduct, a design fiction, and absolutely should not be used as an IUD.
\nNevertheless, it is designed according to dimensions, materials and
\nshapes commonly found in IUDs.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
