I\u2019m so psyched to announce another successful result of my 3D modeling adventure<\/a>! Check out the print of the Oh No cat<\/a> from WebComicName<\/a> that I described designing in my last column. It\u2019s so cute! I\u2019m going to play with the sizing a bit with it and the OG Oh No character<\/a> so that the cat gets a bit larger and the other a bit smaller (and less expensive, woot!).<\/p>\n

Over the last week, two new 3D design missions have popped up: One is from David, a friend of a friend who is interested in getting a 3D printed trophy because he\u00a0\u201c<\/em>won a golf tournament the other week and my team mate and I didn\u2019t win a trophy. This made me upset because I haven’t won a trophy for like 20 years.\u201d After questioning David about why the heck he would participate in a tournament where they didn\u2019t give out prizes, I asked him about what he was specifically looking for.<\/p>\n

“It was a Babson College golf event, so I was thinking of having a goblet as the trophy, so we can drink out of it, and have a beaver as the stem (our mascot), and it needs to be gold. Being able to consume alcohol out of my goblet beaver is a pretty big deal… just as Brady wears his rings to dinners, and Gronk strips at bars in Southie. It\u2019s a statement. I’M A WINNER.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I also had him send over a drawing of what he was hoping the final trophy\/chalice might look like (below). Because they want to be able to drink out of it, I\u2019m thinking the best cost-to-material ratio might be to design the chalice in nylon. I could then take the chalice, spray-paint it gold, and seal it with a food safe epoxy. That would work\u2026. right?<\/p>\n

I was also having a chat with my best friend who has been discussing engagement with her very wonderful boyfriend. She and I have been chatting about rings and it got me thinking, how much fun would it be to design a punny ring that\u2019s a cheeky take on diamonds? According to a Google search, the average engagement ring is two carats, so I\u2019m thinking of designing a Three Carrot Ring as my first foray into jewelry design. And the best part? Our very own fabulous Wynn Mustin created a tutorial on how to design a simple 3D printed ring<\/a>, so I\u2019m going to use that as a a guide! I\u2019m learning more and more that I can combine with what I\u2019ve learned in other tutorials, expanding the learnings like building blocks.<\/p>\n

Now, much like this debate on how the Snapchat hot dog would wear pants (credit: Venti.memes<\/a>), how could carrots be mounted onto a ring?<\/p>\n
